Brading was once governed from this building by the corporate officers; it now serves as cusodian of civic documents and objects of historical interest.

The history of the building and its function in governing the everyday life of the town from Medievil times until the 19th century can be read about in the upstairs room of the building. Also on view are a range of documents and possessions of the town including the weights and measures dated 1829 - (which were used when Brading was the testing place for weights and measures for all East Wight),. Medievil Charters, Town arms, old Leases, Law books and Acts of Parliament and the ancient seal of "Ye Kynge's Towne" of Brading, along with many other interesting artifacts and photographs.

Before Brading's first school was built in 1823 the childeren were taught here. The building was restored in 1876. Now owned and maintained by the Brading Town Trust, it has been open to the public as a museum since 1962 and was restored again in 2006.
